To help me through my day, as I drive to work, I listen to teachings from other churches around the US. You can learn a lot from hearing different teaching styles from God's word. Well, while on my long drive to work on this particular day, this minister was talking about listening to God and then actually doing what God says. Ya know, sometimes, I find that hard. Because God will ask you do things that will, well....feel embarrassing at the time. You don't understand it, but God has a reason...it is to help someone else and you are in the right place at the right time to do it for him.
This minister said something that just hit a cord within my heart. I have heard it before but never has it touched me like this. (like I have always said, sometimes people need to hear something over and over before it sinks in and before they understand it, same for me too). Well, let me share it with you.....The call of God will always require a move from you. What he means is you need to GO. This call is something that you do, move, it's an active word. I always felt this meant to go on mission. Which is does partly. And I am doing this. I am working with my church, within the states with Send Relief, and globally with Honduras missions.
BUT... It's not always that God calls you to leave a place and go somewhere. Sometimes it is to leave a mentality that you have. This is what stopped me in my tracks and I got to thinking....what am I holding onto. Is my memories of past experiences guiding me in what I do. Guiding me in how I make decisions. ABSOLUTELY it is!! Sometimes this can be good. It can help keep you from repeating past mistakes, past sins. But it can also hold you up, cause you to not MOVE forward in following what God has planned, what He is asking for you to do.
I saw a saying on facebook that says: God has a tendency of picking up a nobody, to become a somebody, in front of everybody, without asking anybody.
Yup, that is so true. You just never know when you will be asked and who will be witness to this. We all must have the trust and relationship with God to hear him, but to also have courage to do what is asked from us by God.
To grow, you must leave things behind. But also, there is power in showing up for others.
Ruth 1:16; "But Ruth replied, “Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God." I encourage you to read the book of Ruth. It is an amazing story.
Proverbs 16:3; "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Blessings to all,
